ROTARY PROGRAM - John Gooden, left, and Dr. Russ Hopkins, right, were the speakers at the Kingfisher Rotary Club last week. Pictured with Rotary President Neal Brown, the two talked of progress made with the Kingfisher Trails project that will eventually encircle Kingfisher with an approximately 9.5 mile walking and nature trail. They announced that Boecher Lake (named after Roy Boecher), located in the flood plain on the northwest side of downtown, directly west of Walter Building Center, was now a prominent feature of the trails. A community-wide clean-up of the area was held Feb. 29. The pair also said work would begin soon on the Newfield Community Park, also in the flood plain west of downtown. It was made possible through a $500,000 donation by the Newfield Foundation. Brown is a member of the Kingfisher Tree Board board of directors, which works in conjunction with the Kingfisher Trails board on several joint ventures, including the north entrance/Survivor Tree Park, located on the north side of U.S. 81, directly north of Pioneer Telephone’s headquarters building.
