Lady Warriors conclude festival with 5-1 record

Trinity Rice pitched a gem on Saturday to keep Okarche from going through its own festival unbeaten.

Rice struck out 10 batters over six innings as Crescent downed the Lady Warriors 3-2 in the Okarche Softball Festival.

The loss was Okarche’s first of the festival (and the season) as it concluded the festival 5-1.

Crescent was 5-0 in its festival games.

Rice was able to out-duel Okarche’s Lawson Geheb, who allowed just five hits and three earned runs over her six innings in the showdown.

The teams were tied 1-1 entering the fourth inning when Crescent struck with a two-out RBI double and then got another run on a wild pitch.

The Lady Tigers carried that lead into the bottom of the sixth inning when Okarche attempted to rally.

Geheb’s sacrifice fly scored Chloe Rother to bring Okarche within a run and Kinley Pruett followed with a double, but the Lady Warriors couldn’t continue the surge as Rice coaxed a pop out to end the game.

Earlier on Saturday, Okarche downed Hinton 8-0.

Avery Treece picked up the win with five innings of work during which she gave up four hits and struck out seven.

The Lady Warriors wasted little time putting the game away as they scored seven in the first inning.

That included two-run homers off the bats of both Geheb and Callie Cramer.

Eight different batters combined for Okarche’s 10 hits, two each by Kenzie Harper and Treece.

After opening the festival with wins against Watonga and Cashion on Thursday (see our weekend edition), Okarche swept through Union City and Arnett on Friday.

Treece was massive in the 5-0 victory over Union City.

Not only did she throw six shutout innings and strike out eight batters, but she also blasted a pair of home runs.

Her two-run shot in the bottom of the second put Okarche on the board.

With her team up 3-0, Treece added a solo homer in the fourth.

Geheb added her own solo shot for Okarche’s final run in the fifth inning.

Geheb pitched all four innings in the 11-1 run-rule win over Union City.

The right-hander allowed four hits and struck out seven batters.

Arnett did manage a run off her in the top of the first inning, but Okarche struck back with seven in the bottom of the frame.

Pruett, Cramer, Charlie Petty and Rother had an RBI each and then Katie Parham made it 7-1 with a three-run double.

Emma Roby and Treece offered back-to-back RBI doubles in the second and Parham struck again, this time with a two-run double of her own.

Parham was 2 for 2 with 5 RBIs.

Roby also had two hits and scored twice.

Cashion eventually finished the festival with a 3-2 mark.

After losing to Okarche, the Lady Wildcats downed Vici 8-2 on Thursday.

They came back Friday to beat Calumet 9-6 before falling to Binger-Oney 8-6.

Cashion closed out the festival Saturday with a 9-2 win over Hinton.
