Rounding into fine form
Bly Frieouf will return to the Class A state cross country meet as a regional champ.
Now he will see if he can repeat as the state champ.
The Dover senior won the regional race Saturday at Henryetta and led his team to a runner-up finish.
Frieouf finished the 5K course in 17:06.95, which was nearly 12 seconds faster than Cooper Emmons of Davenport.
The next two spots belonged to Regent Prep, which won the regional team title.
Elijah Lake was third and Levi Barnes fourth to help lead No. 1 Regent Prep to just 20 points (Class A counts the top four runners toward the team point total).
Dover is ranked third in the class and scored 37, well ahead of third-place Calvin.
Brady Reese was 12th overall and scored 10 points for Dover as he finished in 18:45.15.
Nick Spradling was 13th and scored 11 points in 18:55.45 while Reid Frieouf was 17th and scored 15 team points.
He crossed the line in 19:19.26.
Also for Dover, Brok Cooper was 36th and Lukah Pendergraft 45th.
Teams from the regional also advancing to state were Mingo Valley Christian School and Davenport.
This will be Dover’s first-ever appearance at state as a team.
Bly Frieouf is the defending state champ in Class A.
He won the title while a junior last year at Medford.
The state runner-up was Gentry Long of Laverne.
Long is the only runner to beat Frieouf in an Oklahoma race this season.
The Tiger senior won the pre-state meet held at Carl Albert in September while Frieouf was the runner- up.
This year’s state meet is at Carl Albert Middle School (near the high school football field).
The Class A boys will race at 9 a.m.
