James Ray Tech, 62, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on May 24, 2021. James was born March 19, 1959, in Okarche to Fred and Virginia Tech. He grew up in Calumet and graduated from Calumet High School in 1977.

J.R. Buford

Services for J. R. Buford, 85, were June 1 at Hennessey Cemetery Pavilion officiated by Jimmy Berkenbile. Arrangements were by Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home. J. R. was born at Lacy on Jan. 6, 1936, to Orin J. and Blanche E. McGinnis Buford and died May 24, 2021, at his home south of Ames.

Cindy Ann Gill passed away May 20, 2021, at the age of 72 in Tulsa. Cindy was born July 15, 1948, in Kingfisher to Robert Leland Walter and Helen Jane (Smith) Walter Throckmorton. This is where she attended grade school, loved playing high school basketball and completed her high school education.

Debra Kay Walters, 63, of Crescent, passed away April 4, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. Debbie was born Sept. 6, 1957, to James and Kay Carter of Dover. A celebration of life service was April 11, at the First United Methodist Church in Crescent with Pastor Dave Petty officiating.

Helen “Suzanne” Fadely Means Blake was born June 27, 1935, and passed away May 19, 2021, in Kingfisher. She was 85.

Donald L. Jones, 81, passed away May 25, 2021. Don was born Oct. 15, 1940, in Council Grove, Kan., to Herbert and Gladys (Campmier) Jones. He married Rojean Ann Beeman on June 25, 1958.

This weekend’s Oklahoma Baseball Coaches Association All-State games will have a dose of Kingfisher County flavor. Ian Daugherty of Kingfisher and Nathaniel Bronaugh of Cashion both were selected as OBCA All-State players for their performances during the 2021 season.

Classic Bowl events are this week

A number of local high schools will be represented in all-star basketball and football games at this week’s Classic Bowl XXXIII in Woodward. The weeklong of events will be capped at 7:30 p.m. Saturday with the annual Classic Bowl football game.
