Emily Sanders became just the sixth person from Kingfisher to be awarded the Elks National Foundation Legacy Award. With the award came a $4,000 scholarship, which she was presented May 4 during the 2021 Kingfisher Elks Lodge Honors Banquet.

It is a tremendous and well told history lesson of the internal struggle of strong individual states vs. strong central government.

Hennessey Police Department recently issued the following citations: No Driver License ($365 fine) – Juvenile, Hennessey, Manuel Olivas, Hennessey; Elida Veleazquze, Hennessey. Driving in a Manner Not Reasonable and Proper ($265 fine) – Two Hennessey juveniles.

Kingfisher County commissioners approved payment Monday of a $2,025.50 invoice from Circuit Engineering District 8 for eight bridge inspections in Districts 2 and 3. The annual bridge inspections are required by state law to maintain safety of county bridges.

Wednesday night’s super moon – the term for when a full moon comes closest to earth’s orbit and appears oversized in the sky – will coincide with a full lunar eclipse. The resulting red appearance is called a blood moon and will be visible about 6:11 a.m. Thursday in central and western Oklahoma.

Susan Jane (Baker) Wehrenberg, 70, passed away May 20, 2021. She was born Oct. 28, 1950, in Pawnee to Rev. H. Ray and Ernestine Baker, the third of their four children. Being the daughter of a Methodist minister, Susan lived in the communities where her father pastored during her early years.

Dr. Enid Buswell Bates, 93, passed away April 8, 2021, in Amarillo, Texas. Final memorial service is Saturday, May 29, at the Kingfisher First United Methodist Church. Burial was April 14 at Kingfisher Cemetery. Enid was born Dec.

A memorial service for Owen Major is planned Friday, June 4. The service will be at 2 p.m. at the Scissortail Crossing Events Venue, 210 E. Will Rogers Drive, in Kingfisher. Friends and family are welcome to attend. Masks are encouraged, but not required. Owen passed away Nov.

The Cheyenne and Arapaho center in Kingfisher is slated to open next month, two-and-a-half years after receiving city approval for rezoning at the former location of Kingfisher Regional Hospital.

Members of Kingfisher’s American Legion Auxiliary are once again encouraging citizens to honor fallen veterans ahead of National Poppy Day.
