Kingfisher Police reports

The Kingfisher Police Department has investigated or responded to the following reports: March 30 - Malicious injury/destruction of property. Officer Dillon Chaloupek was dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of South Sixth Street in regard to property damage.

Traffic accident

The following traffic accident is being investigated by the Kingfisher Police Department: April 2, 12:30 p.m. - At U.S. 81 and S.H. 33. Edward Evey, 63, Kingfisher, driving a 2009 school bus, was eastbound in the inside lane of S.H. 33 and stopped at the traffic light of U.S. 81 intersection.

Zero comp claims leads to hefty county rebate

Kingfisher County received a rebate of $23,325.64 from its worker’s compensation insurance, an item on the county commissioners’ meeting agenda Monday related. Chairman Heath Dobrovolny said the rebate came because of zero worker’s compensation claims for the 2017-18 policy year.

Eight OHS speechters medal at state

Eight Okarche students received state medals in seven events during the OSSAA State Speech Tournament held April 7 through 10. This year’s tournament was “virtual” with students submitting videos of their qualifying performances. Okarche had a strong showing from members of its junior class.

Police investigate recent incidents

Accidents investigated

The following traffic accidents are being investigated by the Kingfisher Police Department: April 6, 3:30 p.m. - At S.H. 33 and 13th Street. A 17-year-old male, Hennessey, driving a 2015 Toyota Camry, was southbound on North 13th Street and stopped at the intersection of S.H. 33.

Hennessey sets clean-up

The Town of Hennessey’s annual Spring Clean-up is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Use of the transfer station/dump site on Cemetery road will be free to all county residents during those hours.

Tom Hughes

Tom D. Hughes, 80, a resident of Wheaton, Ill., passed away April 6, 2021. He was born Feb. 12, 1941, in Kingfisher to Frank and Lola Hughes. Tom was a native of the Kingfisher area where his family raised wheat and cattle on their Centennial Farm.

Letter to the editor: Government corruption

People seem to associate government corruption only on a state or federal level, however, one need not look much further than their own local government or public office to see a vast amount of pilfering.

A ‘Meck’ of a Day for KHS trio

It was a good day to be a Mecklenburg. The trio of Mason Mecklenburg, Braxton Mecklenburg and Maddox Mecklenburg combined to win six medals - including three golds - on Saturday to help the Kingfisher High School boys team to a second-place finish in their own meet.
