The Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) last week announced that local community banker Barry Anderson, president of F&M Bank, Guthrie, was named to serve on ICBA’s Housing Finance Committee. ICBA is the nation’s voice for community banks.

The Kingfisher Police Department has investigated or responded to the following report: March 15 - Larceny of merchandise from retailer and malicious injury/destruction of property. Officer Dustin Brodrick responded to a report of theft at Atwoods, 1215 S. Main St.

Candace Lee Johnson, 67, of Kingfisher, died March 28, 2021. She was born Aug. 21, 1953, to Verdean George and Elsie Ann (Oppel) Johnson. Candace graduated from Big 4 Elementary and Cashion High School. She attended Draughon’s Business School in Oklahoma City.

Kenneth Clifford Murray, known as “Murph” to friends, passed away on Friday, April 2, 2021, surrounded by family at his home in Kingfisher. He was 75 years old. Graveside services are set for 2 p.m.

Laura Ann (Fowlkes) Ingram was born to John and Laura Fowlkes on Sept. 25, 1936, in Lelia Lake, Texas. She passed away March 31, 2021, in Kingfisher at the age of 84. Laura, her older brother Earl, and her younger sister Margaret were all born in the same farm house.

Betty ZumMallen was born Sept. 19, 1930, in Little Rock, Ark., and passed away March 30, 2021, in Oklahoma City. She was a graduate of Oklahoma A&M (now OSU). Betty married LeRoy ZumMallen on April 12, 1958. She was a homemaker, but also helped out on the dairy farm they owned.

Kingfisher athletes nearly swept the jumping events last Thursday in a large-school track and field meet. Yellowjackets won five of the six combined events during the Piedmont High School Invitational. KHS male jumpers won the high jump, long jump and pole vault.

Kingfisher Golf Course just got a little bit longer. Members of the Kingfisher Golf Association board of directors as well club manager Gary Wilson christened two brand new greens last Friday. The greens are on the par-3 seventh and par-4 eighth and have been under construction since last fall.

Five of the top-10 teams in Class 4A battled windy elements Monday at the Elk City Golf and Country Club. Turns out No. 1 was much better than the rest. Top-ranked Kingfisher had three golfers finish among the top-four individuals to easily win the Elk City Invitational girls golf tournament.
