The Kingfisher Lions Club has announced Kingfisher High School seniors Irelyn Schemmer and Harrison Themer have been named the Junior Lions for March 2020. Schemmer is the daughter of Ed and Amber Schemmer.

Kingfisher and Cashion’s hopes of playing in the state basketball tournament remain alive. Spring sports and other fine arts activities haven’t been ruled out either. Only time will tell if they’re able to actually realize those dreams.

Kingfisher got one final baseball game in before all activities were shut down by the Department of Education. And, whether it’s their last game for a while or for the season, the Jackets made it an exciting one.

Kingfisher Study Club met March 4 in the home of Terri Peck with Clairetta Lowe as co-hostess. President Melda Fischer opened the meeting by reading “A Very Special Bank Account.” Thirteen members answered the roll call. Minutes were read and the treasurer’s report given and approved.

These are extraordinary times in which we are living. With that said, I want to offer reassurance and hope. We are a strong district, a strong state and a strong nation. We have endured every past crisis we’ve faced in Oklahoma and in our nation. We will prevail over this as well.

First of all, I’d like to focus on the coronavirus. We’re well aware of it through the news media. We all want to use caution and common sense. That’s the main thing. There’s folks that have problems getting around. We can offer help, maybe picking up a few groceries, or offering a ride.

Billy Dewayne Givens, 59, of Perry, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 14, 2020, in Perry. Billy was born Feb. 25, 1961, in Perry to George and Helen Ann (Folsom) Givens. He was always a hard worker, working for dairies, hauling hay, working on cars and welding.

A private memorial service for Evelyn May Lunsford, 85, Kingfisher, was 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, at Frontline Ministries officiated by Debbie Burpo. Cremation arrangements were by Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home, Hennessey. Evelyn was born Oct. 12, 1934, in Denver, Colo.
