Beaten, but not broken

Gone is the chance for a perfect season and that long win streak. But the chance for a repeat? That still remains. The Kingfisher Yellowjackets made their way into their fourth straight Class 4A state basketball tournament as expected last weekend. How they got there was the unexpected part.

Okarche title hopes end in semis

A look up and down the stat sheet proved there wasn’t a lot that separated Okarche and No. 1 Hydro-Eakly in their Class A girls basketball semifinal.

2A, 4A STATE SCHEDULE

Two Kingfisher County basketball teams still have at least one game remaining this season. The Cashion and Kingfisherboys’ teams will begin their quests for a gold ball when the state tournament for Classes 2A, 3A and 4A tips off Thursday at various sites around Oklahoma City.

Lady Jackets fall 1 win short

In each of the three games against Weatherford this season, the Kingfisher girls basketball team was “right there” with Class 4A’s fourth-ranked team. There was a stretch in each of those previous three losses where struggles in one aspect or another ultimately cost KHS the game.

Caddo got two of the biggest plays of the game and that was enough to undo Cashion’s season.

Leta Mae Stitt

Leta Mae (Buckner) Stitt was born Sept. 3, 1926, to John and Francis (Hawkins) Buckner in Dover. She passed away Saturday, March 7, in her home west of Dover at the age of 93. Leta Mae was the oldest of 10 siblings. She grew up in Dover and graduated from Dover School in 1945.

Leslie Wall

Memorial service for Leslie Ann Murray Wall, 69, Dover, will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at Dover Christian Church officiated by Jimmy Berkenbile. Cremation arrangements are by Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home, Hennessey. Leslie was born in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Cashion group claims chess state title

The following traffic accidents are being investigated by the Kingfisher Police Department: February 21, 8:10 p.m. - At 201 S. Main St. Bennie Ridenour, 21, Kingfisher, driving a 2010 Chevrolet, was backing out of a parking space at Love’s Country Store.
