Okarche speech team wins Class 3A sweepstakes at SWOSU tournament

The Okarche speech team competed in the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Invitational Speech Tournament and brought home seven individual trophies and the Class 3A sweepstakes trophy. Senior Matt Carney was the tournament runner-up in domestic extemp.

Theta Chapter judges essays for annual contest

Theta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met at 10 a.m. Feb. 8 at the Kingfisher Public Library. The members judged essays from Watonga, Okarche and Lomega public schools. There were nine essays from seventh graders and 11 essays from eighth graders.

Hennessey board rehires principals for 2020-21

After more than an hour in closed session Monday night, the Hennessey Board of Education voted to rehire the district’s principals. Approved were high and mid-high principal Angela Avila; elementary school principal Barry Crosswhite, and early-childhood principal Stacey Schovanec.

Kingfisher Rotary Club hosted four seniors from Kingfisher High School during its weekly meeting last Tuesday. Joining the group were Zarek Pickle, Jonathon Orozco, Dylan Carey and Jarrod Shipley. Pickle is the son of Eric Pickle and Erika Pickle.
