Weatherford denies Lady Jackets in Buckle title tilt

In a bit of deja vu, Weatherford won its third straight girls Buckle of the Wheatbelt tournament championship. For the second straight year, the Lady Eagles defeated KHS in the finals. This time around the final margin was 49- 35 as Class 4A’s fourth-ranked Lady Eagles improved to 15-0.

‘Sooner’ rather than later

Less than 24 hours after helping lead his team to another tournament championship, Bijan Cortes announced a big decision about his future. The Kingfisher High School junior made it public early Sunday evening that he had committed to play basketball for the University of Oklahoma.

Trio named OCA All-State in football

Three Kingfisher County football players have earned one of the top honors for prep players in the state. Cashion’s Ryan Baker and Kingfisher’s Wes Hine and Riley Myers were selected to the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State team, it was announced Monday.

Longhorns take 7th at Skeltur

Sheriff sued for alleged wrongful firing

Two former Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Offi ce employees filed a wrongful termination lawsuit Jan. 16 against Sheriff Dennis Banther and the county, alleging they were fi red last year in retaliation for their association with a possible political rival.
