15th annual Black History program Saturday in Dover

The Lone Oak Community Center will be presenting its 15th annual Black History program this weekend. “I Am One” is the title of the program that will be presented at noon Saturday, Feb. 1. The center is located at 19484 E 700 Road in Dover (2 1/2 miles east of Dover on 700 Road).

Rotary members view winning local videos for OEC’s Youth Tour

Jeff Hyatt, chief operations officer of Cimarron Electric, touched on a variety of subjects as the featured speaker of the Kingfisher Rotary Club last week. He showed three winning videos of local high school students chosen last year to visit Washington, D.C.

Traffic accidents

The following traffic accidents are being investigated by the Kingfisher Police Department:January 8, 8:45 p.m.- At U.S. 81 and Miles Avenue. Wayne John, 47, Albuquerque, N.M., driving a 2014 Western Star semitruck, was stopped at the U.S. 81/S.H. 33 stoplight in the outside southbound lane of U.S.

Following are reports and citations issued by the Hennessey Police Department since Dec. 26, 2019: Fire/car accident – Driver Heather Hawk, Hennessey, hit telephone utility pole at Nebraska and Main Sts. Jan. 16, 12:12 a.m. Ambulance and two pumper trucks responded. Electrician called.

Lela Kunau

Funeral service for Lela Kunau, 88, of Kingfisher, was Monday, Jan. 27, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Scott Watkins officiating. Burial followed at Kingfisher Cemetery with arrangements by Sanders Funeral Service. Lela was born in Wirt on Dec. 5, 1931, to Mary J. Carroll and Ira Enloe.

Eva Ross

Eva Louise Ross, 84, of Kingfisher, passed away Jan. 27, 2020 in Kingfisher. She was born Jan. 28, 1935, in Fallis to Harry and Lorene (Clark) Butler. Eva retired from Kingfisher Regional Hospital where she worked as a housekeeper.

Kingfisher’s stranglehold on the Buckle of the Wheatbelt championship got a bit tighter last weekend. The Jackets won their fourth straight title and ninth overall Saturday with an 85-42 dismantling of Class 5A’s 16th-ranked Guthrie in the championship game.
