Hennessey’s Collier wins gold, sets record

Hennessey High School sophomore Madison Collier not only made herself a repeat champion last weekend, she set a record in the process. Collier won the Class 3A discus event at the state track and field championships held in Catoosa for the second straight year.

Bad luck befalls Cashion track

Before the Class 2A state track and field championships began, Cashion coach Tony Wood knew his team’s chances of a repeat title were slim. “It’s Watonga’s to win,” Wood said. “The rest of us are truly gunning for second and I feel we’ve got a shot.” Wood turned out to be prophetic.

KHS STATE TRACK ROUNDUP Madeline Loosen’s legs have carried her to a team state championship in cross country and an individual state title on the track. She’s earned multiple medals and all-state honors with her running prowess.

Familiar faces return to KPS coaching fold

To fill a coaching void that was left vacant all of last season, Jeff Myers is turning to a trusted, former longtime assistant coach. Stuart Purintun is returning to Kingfisher, a place he roamed the football sidelines and served in various other capacities inside the school district for 10 years.

Golfers in 5th entering final state round

Two-thirds of the way through the Class 3A boys state golf tournament, Kingfisher found itself sitting in fifth place. The Jackets shot rounds of 326 and 319 Monday at Tulsa Country Club for a 645 total. That left them well back of the leaders, but only four strokes out of fourth place.

Following is a list of local athletes who scored points for their respective teams at last week’s state track and field championships: Class 4A at Catoosa (Kingfisher) Girls 100 - Ally Stephenson, eighth, 13.04 800 - Madeline Loosen, third, 2:19.97 300 hurdles - Makina Frost, eighth, 49.

David Bowerman

David Michael Bower-man, 81, died Sunday, May 5, 2019, in his home after a long battle with kidney disease. He was born to David E. and Edna A. (Bennett) Bowerman on Sept. 26, 1937, in Shawnee. He attended school in Shawnee and graduated from Crescent High School.

Arthur Curtis Cook

Arthur Curtis Cook was born on April 6, 1937, in Guthrie, to Roy Alvin Cook and Grace Nellie (Kinney) Cook and passed away in Fort Worth. He went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 2, 2019.

Marriage License Kingfisher County Court Clerk Lisa Markus issued marriage licenses recently to the following couples: April 17 – Miguel Angel Rivera, 46, and Nancy Walden Denson, 58, both of Loyal. April 24 – Rusty Wayne Smith, 30, and Jacob Alan Stephens, 25, both of Kingfisher.
