Rep. Mike Sanders’ report: Bills headed to governor

Several bills I authored this session were sent to the governor to await his signature.  House Bill 2051 would allow retired paid firefighters to return to service as volunteers without affecting their state pensions. It passed the state Senate this week 42-0.

Have you counted your blessings lately? Sometimes we get so tangled up in our everyday things that we forget to count our blessings. We got a nice rain early this morning (Tuesday, the 23rd). It was a real blessing. Our ponds are full of water, our pastures are bustin’ with green grass.

Nerves were already at an all-time high for Alexis Stitt. And then Wednesday happened. “I wasn’t hitting the ball very well in practice and it really upset me because I know I can do better than that,” said the Kingfisher High School junior golfer. Why so anxious?

Cashion offense explodes; needs 3 wins to advance

Cashion scored 32 runs in its first two games at its Class A baseball regional, but still finds itself on the brink of elimination. The ninth-ranked Wildcats were sent to the consolation bracket after Thursday night’s 18-16 loss to No. 8 Canute in a winner’s bracket game.

Goodwin, Covalt deliver, but KHS dealt loss

Zach Goodwin led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run and had another productive day of offense, but it wasn’t enough to lift Kingfisher to a win on Senior Night. Weatherford scored five runs in the final two innings Thursday to knock off the Jackets 7-3 at Homier Field.

KHS 10th out of 41 teams at Bluejay Bash

Kingfisher got its final prep for its upcoming 36-hole regional when it took part in Guthrie’s Bluejay Bash Thursday at Lake Hefner Golf Club in Oklahoma City. The Yellowjackets shot a combined 617 on the North and South courses to place 10th out of 42 teams on hand.

Correction

When Kingfisher senior Colton York set the new school record in the long jump on April 19, he broke the one set by Lamont Gunnings in 1991. As correct math would indicate, that’s 28 years ago, not 18 as was previously reported.

Antoinette Lodes

Antoinette Marie Lodes passed away at St. Ann’s Nursing Home in Oklahoma City April 21, 2019. She was born to John and Anna (Rother) Rueter on Feb. 25, 1919, in Okarche and lived her entire life in Okarche until age 99.

Steven Robinson

Steven Lynn Robinson, 73, passed away the morning of April 22, 2019. He was surrounded by his loving family and his trusty feline companion, Mr. T. Steven was born July 29, 1945, in Halstead, Kan. He was a graduate of Buhler High School.

Barbara Stevens

Barbara Stevens gained her wings on April 22, 2019. She is now safe in the arms of her Lord and Savior and with family and friends who left before her. Barbara was born on Jan. 1, 1937, in Kansas to Harvie O. and Alice Irene West.
