3A State Schedule, Matchups

The Class 3A state wrestling tournament will begin on Thursday with the first batch of matches beginning at 9:30 a.m.

As always, state will take place at State Fair Arena.

Once a two-day tournament, the expansion of girls wrestling into two classifi cations has necessitated expanding the tournament to three days.

Thursday will feature wrestle-in and first-round matches for 3A and 4A boys and 5A girls.

All eight Kingfisher County wrestlers who qualifi ed - five from Kingfisher, two from Cashion and one from Hennessey - will take part in the 3A field.

Following is the schedule for Class 3A:

Thursday

• 8 a.m. - Doors open

• 9:30 a.m. - Wrestle-in matches

• 11 a.m. - First round, all classes

Friday

• 8:30 a.m. - Doors open

• 10 a.m. - Wrestle back

• Noon - Semifinal matches

Saturday (First session)

• 8 a.m. - Doors open

• 9 a.m. - Consolation semifinals

• 1:30 p.m. - Third/ fourth matches

Saturday (Second session)

• 4:30 p.m. - Doors open

• 6:30 p.m. - Finals

• 9 p.m. - Awards presentations

Opening Matches

Two county wrestlers are in the 126-pound bracket.

Hennessey’s Westyn Hopkins will take part in a wrestle-in match with Sabon Batton. Hopkins was fifth in the west regional while Batton took fourth in the east.

The winner of the match will move into the double- elimination bracket and will take on Kingfisher freshman Jaxon Sheppard in the quarterfinals.

Sheppard won the west regional championship.

At 132 pounds, KHS senior Gant Browning is making his fourth appearance at state.

He’ll wrestle Blackwell’s Payton Head in the quarterfi nals.

Head was third in the east while Browning was the west runner-up.

The winner will likely face east regional champ Jesse Justice of Sperry in the semifinals.

Kingfisher’s Brayden Kochenower was also a runner-up in the west. His silver came at 138 pounds.

He’ll face Blackwell’s Laker Ingram in the quarterfi nals. Ingram was third in the east.

Damien Haynes will take part in a 144-pound wrestle-in match. He will face Vinita’s Coleman Kauffman.

The winner will advance into the main bracket to wrestle Marlow’s Brantz Bateman in the quarterfinals.

Cashion’s Carlos Martinez is also in a wrestle-in match with his coming at 157 pounds.

The freshman will take on Sperry’s Jacob Cook, who was fourth in the east.

The victor will bounce over into the main bracket to wrestle Marlow’s Cade Gilbert, who won the west regional.

Taking part in a 175-pound wrestle-in match will be KHS junior Mason Alig.

He was fourth in the west and will face Vian’s Tristan Wiley, who was fifth in the east.

The winner will face Lawson Lusk of Blackwell, the east champ, in the quarterfi nal round.

Matthew Stockton of Cashion will face Blackwell’s Stoney Hutson in a heavyweight wrestle-in match.

The winner gets Sallisaw’s Maverick Williamson in the quarterfinal round.
