Cashion can’t get away from conference foes to begin the 2024 playoffs.

The Wildcats opened their postseason on Friday by dispatching of rival Crescent 85-20 at home to claim a 2A district championship.

With the win, Cashion stays in the winner’s bracket moving into this week’s regional tournament.

It will play Fairview at 6 p.m. Thursday in a regional semifinal on the Lady Jackets’ home court.

Like Cashion, both Crescent and Fairview are members of the Three Rivers Conference.

Saturday was the third time Cashion met up with Crescent. All three have been blowouts.

This time around, Cashion led 22-1 after a quarter and 38-6 by halftime.

Senior Lauren Jenkins led the way with 27 points.

Cashion, which improved to 18-6, also got 13 points from Megan Shafer while Jaylee Harp scored nine.

Zori Wilson led Crescent with 10.

Thursday will mark the third time for Cashion and Fairview to match up.

Cashion won 67-52 when they played in the conference tournament semifinals on Jan. 5.

Fairview returned the favor on Jan. 30 when it earned a 44-40 victory at home in overtime.

Tigers erase early deficit to knock off Cashion Crescent didn’t let a terrible start keep it from a district championship.

Despite Cashion scoring the game’s first 15 points, it was the Tigers hoisting the 2A district plaque after a 51-48 victory at Cashion on Saturday.

Kade Varner scored 28 points to lead the Tigers, who trimmed the early deficit to 10 points by the end of the first quarter.

They had it down to seven by halftime and had claimed a one-point lead entering the fourth.

Carson Gump recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds while Nathan Nabavi scored 17 for Cashion.

The loss dropped the Wildcats to 9-15.

They play Newkirk at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in a regional elimination game at Fairview.

This marks the first time since 2016 that Cashion hasn’t won a district championship.
