Cross country regional assignments

Kingfisher County teams will make their bid this Saturday to qualify for the state cross country meet.

Regionals will be held across the state for multiple classes, though most county teams will have a short drive.

Kingfisher (Class 4A), Hennessey (3A) and Cashion (2A) will take part in the regional being hosted by Oklahoma Bible Academy in Enid.

Lomega (2A), on the other hand, heads east. Way east.

The Raider squads were assigned the Checotah regional by the OSSAA.

“The regional at OBA is always so tough,” said Lomega coach Justin Edsall. “Going east or south usually gives teams a better chance of reaching state, so we don’t mind the drive.”

The top-seven teams from each of the three 2A, 3A and 4A regionals will advance to the following week’s state meet.

Also advancing will be the top-seven individuals from non-qualifying teams.

In 4A girls, KHS is one of three top-10 teams at OBA. The Lady Jackets are No. 7. Joining them will be No. 4 Anadarko and No. 5 Byng.

The KHS boys are ranked 22nd.

Top-10 teams in their regional include fourthranked Bethany, No. 5 Byng and No. 10 Bridge Creek.

Hennessey girls are ranked No. 6 in 3A.

Other top-10 girls teams will be No. 5 Alva and No. 8 Washington.

Lomega’s girls are ranked No. 23 and the boys No. 28 in 2A.
