It’s tournament week for county teams

All six Kingfisher County schools will be taking part in tournaments this weekend.

Half of them will be in the Three Rivers Conference Tournament, which is being hosted this year at Hennessey High School.

Joining the Eagles from the county will be Cashion and Okarche.

The Okarche Lady Warriors have won four straight conference tournament crowns.

A buzzer-beater 3-pointer by James Sims allowed Hennessey to knock off Okarche for the boys title last season. That snapped Cashion’s four-year run of winning the conference crown.

Kingfisher will be making its annual trek to Chisholm for the Wheat Capital Tournament.

The KHS boys have won four championships in a row and nine of the last 10. The lone exception was 2019 when the Jackets didn’t take part in the tournament.

The KHS girls were runners- up to Jones last season.

The Lady Jackets have been runners-up four times in the last six years.

Lomega will head west once again to take part in the Warrior Classic in Hammon.

The host Lady Warriors beat Lomega in last year’s title game, which proved to be a preview of the eventual Class B state championship.

Lomega enters this year’s tournament ranked No. 3 in Class B and Hammon is ranked second.

Lomega’s boys were third in the tournament a year ago.

Dover will be a part of the Mulhall-Orlando Invitational field.

The Lady Longhorns are ranked No. 1 in Class B and are undefeated.

The second seed in the tournament is Varnum, a perennial contender in Class B that is currently ranked No. 6 with a 10-1 record (as of press time).

The Varnum boys are 9-2 and ranked seventh.

Also in the tournament is Union City.

The Lady Tigers are coached by Lomega alum Ashley LaGasse, who is in her first season with the program.

She’s assisted by Travis Boots, a Kingfisher alum who also previously coached at Dover.

Dover and Union City girls could potentially meet up in the semifinals.
