Jackets, Boomers split district double-header

Kingfisher bounced back from a disappointing loss to salvage a split with Woodward Tuesday to keep its district baseball record even.

Originally scheduled to play a home-and-home series, Monday’s game at Woodward was postponed due to weather conditions, prompting Tuesday’s double- header at Homier Field.

The Boomers scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning to break a tie game and held on for a 6-5 victory in the opener.

The Jackets came back with a vengeance in the nightcap, scored the game’s first eight runs and pulled away for an 11-2 victory.

Eli Johnson got things started when his roller down the third base line scored Hunter Delozier.

A throwing error by the Boomers also saw Dallen Barton score on the play.

Kaden Cline’s sacrifice fly later pushed home Tanner Parker and Johnson eventually scored on a second Boomer error in the inning.

Tanner Parker and Jett Braun each had an RBI single over the next two innings.

Johnson and Bryce Cockayne had RBI hits in the fourth while Parker and Barton added their own in the fifth.

The Jackets had eight hits in the game, three by Parker, who was one of three Jackets to drive in two runs.

He was joined by Johnson and Cockayne.

Parker also grabbed the win on the mound.

He threw five innings, gave up four hits and one earned run.

The senior struck out three and walked four.

Cline finished it out with two innings of one-hit work. The freshman struck out four batters.

The split moved Kingfi sher’s District 4A-3 record to 3-3.

The Jackets and Boomers met up for the third time in three days Thursday in the I-40 Festival in Clinton.

Kingfisher built a fiverun lead before hanging on for an 11-8 victory.

Parker again led the offensive attack with four hits and 4 RBIs.

Cline and Barton had 2 RBIs apiece.

Delozier pitched five innings for the victory.

He gave up nine hits and eight runs, four of which were earned. He struck out seven batters.

Braun threw the final inning. He didn’t give up a hit and struck out two batters.

Barton pitched an excellent game in a 4-2 loss to Fairview at the festival.

The senior pitched all seven innings and struck out 11 batters.

However, four Kingfisher errors contributed to two of Fairview’s runs.

Fariview scored all four of its runs and collected five of its seven hits in the first two innings.

Kingfisher was 5-10 overall after Thursday’s action. The Jackets were set to play Byng and Tuttle over the final two days of the festival on Friday and Saturday.
