Football season may be over, but Wrigley Kennedy still managed a good week in relation to the sport.

The Kingfisher High School senior early in the week announced he was continuing his football career at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

Then on Wednesday it was announced Kennedy was selected to the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State team.

Kennedy was tabbed as an offensive lineman for the West team, which will play against All-State picks from the East in the annual game later this summer.

To be selected to the All-State team, which represents all classifications, players must first be picked to the Oklahoma Football Coaches Association all-star teams for their respective classes.

Joining Kennedy on the 3A West team were Harrison Evans and Jax Sternberger.

The latter two were picked for defense, but were also tabbed as two-way players.

Cashion’s Jackson Vandruff, Camden Maroney and Max Brown were named to the Class A team, as was Crescent’s Terry Rice.

Kennedy is listed at 6-foot-3 and 270 pounds.

As a defensive tackle, he tallied 38 tackles, three tackles for a loss and two sacks.

He was a guard on the offensive front, where he started for three years.

“He always came to work,” said Derek Patterson, Kingfisher’s co-offensive coordinator. He was a quiet leader for us who led by example.”

During his senior campaign, he helped lead the way for a Kingfisher offense that produced 47 total touchdowns and right at 300 yards a game, including 176 yards rushing.

During a three-game win streak to end the season, the Jackets ran for 367 yards against McLoud, 158 against North Rock Creek and 218 at Anadarko.

The Jackets then rushed for 315 yards in a playoff win at Lone Grove, a game that also saw Kennedy make pivotal plays on defense.

“His efforts, hard work and leadership ensured he was going to be very successful,” Patterson said.

Evans had 54 tackles, including 13 for a loss, on defense and was picked for the all-star team as a lineman.

He added 267 receiving yards offensively.

Sternberger threw for 1,422 yards, rushed for 714 yards and accounted for 24 total touchdowns as Kingfi sher’s quarterback.

He also had 38 tackles and five interceptions as a safety.

Vandruff was named an all-star as a defensive lineman, Maroney at linebacker, Brown at wide receiver and Rice as an offensive lineman.

All four were also tabbed two-way players.
