Defense helped Kingfisher carry its winning momentum through the end of its road swing.

The Lady Jackets won their third straight game Tuesday by downing a stubborn Blanchard squad 42-28.

The road win was Kingfi sher’s third in eight days.

KHS got the win despite shooting 26 percent from the field.

After knocking down six field goals and staking a 14-11 lead after a quarter, Blanchard was limited to four field goals the rest of the game. The Lady Lions were held to 23.5 percent shooting over the final three frames.

That allowed Kingfisher’s offense time to get going.

It finally happened in the latter part of the third quarter when KHS turned a two-point lead into a 3724 advantage by the end of the frame.

Talor Mecklenburg scored five points during the stretch as did Abbie Myers.

Blanchard had no shot to catch up.

Turnovers were an issue as Kingfisher forced 21 of them. That resulted in 23 points.

KHS also had 15 second- chance points thanks to 20 offensive rebounds.

That helped the Lady Jackets overcome shooting 8 of 32 from inside the 3-point line and 7 of 25 from beyond it.

Peyton Walker led the team with nine points as she was 3 of 5 from 3-point range.

Addy Matthews and Mecklenburg both made a pair of treys and scored eight points apiece.

Myers scored seven points and led the team with eight rebounds. She also had three steals, which tied her for the team lead with Snider, who added seven rebounds and six points to her night.

Adlee Friesen, starting for the third straight game, scored six.

KHS moved to 9-4 with the win. The Lady Jackets, currently ranked 10th in 4A, have won seven of their last eight games.

Lions Overwhelm Yellowjackets

The Kingfisher boys basketball team was able to take the No. 6 team in Class 4A down to the wire last week.

That wasn’t the case when the Jackets took on the 10th-ranked team.

Blanchard held the Jackets without a field goal in the first quarter and cruise to a 76-37 victory on its home court.

The Lions got out to a 19-1 lead and didn’t look back.

Not until Jake Reagan made a 3-pointer from the top of the key well into the second quarter did the Jackets have their first field goal.

Jhett Birdwell followed that up with a pair of driving buckets, but the Jackets still trailed 37-15 at halftime.

The Lions then went on a 26-4 run in the third quarter.

Reagan scored seven points before fouling out.

Coleman Gilles also scored seven for the Jackets, who dropped to 2-11.

Matthew Mecklenburg and Birdwell scored six points each.
