Kingfisher took runner- up and Hennessey fourth last Saturday during the high school girls race of the ninth annual Mike Driskill Invitational cross country meet.

The meet was run at Hennessey’s Turkey Creek Golf Course.

KHS finished 11 points behind Guthrie in the team race.

The Lady Jackets did so despite Scout Snodgrass being unable to finish the race. Snodgrass fell ill during the run and was unable to continue.

Still, KHS scored just 73 points on the strength of the remainder of the team, which was led by Chesni Newkirk.

The junior was fourth out of 127 contestants and ran the 3,200 meter race in 13:56.44.

Peyton Walker was 12th, but 11th in score placing as she crossed in 14:20.94.

Harper Evans was 14th (12th), Terry Ann McCully 19th (16th) and Emmy Lunsford 38th (30th) to round out Kingfisher’s scoring.

Hennessey notched 99 points to finish below Alva’s 91.

The Lady Eagles had three runners finish in the top-20.

Tayler Franklin led the way in 16th (13) as she finished in 14:32.88.

She was followed by Taryn Jech in 18th (15th) and Jocelyn Matousek, who was 20th (17th).

“I was really happy with how the whole team ran,” said KHS coach Kerri Lafferty.

“The course was set up pretty tough for them, but they seemed to handle it well.”

Kingfisher’s boys took sixth in their 5K race.

The Jackets scored 205 points overall.

Guthrie won the meet with 43 points, which was six fewer than runner-up OKC Knights.

Chisholm took third with 76.

Coleman Gilles led the KHS contingent as he was 31st (28th) out of 142 runners.

He finished in 19:51.31.

Rhett Schlegel was next in 47th (38th) as he finished in 20:37.37.

Cashion had two runners compete in the boys race.

Gage Bedick finished 34th and Luke Baustert 36th.

“It was a good race for our guys,” Lafferty said. “Everyone who has competed there before knows that it’s always a tough course and our guys are running better than they were at this point last season.”
