Kingfisher’s 10-under baseball team nearly reached the final day of the OK Kids State Baseball Tournament earlier this month.

The Jackets were eliminated 15-4 on Friday, July 15, by the host Sallisaw Cowboys, a team that went on to finish as state runner-up.

It was Kingfisher’s second loss to Sallisaw in the tournament. The first was on opening day the previous Tuesday when the Cowboys prevailed 4-2.

The Jackets came back Wednesday and Thursday to win elimination games and remain alive in the tournament, which featured 16 teams overall.

First, Kingfisher knocked out Merritt 11-4.

The Jackets returned that Thursday to defeat the LC Patriots 8-6 and advance to Friday’s rematch.

The team finished the year with a 21-11 record.

Kingfisher was also represented in the OK Kids Coach Pitch State Tournament, which was held in Clinton.

The Jackets went 1-2 during their run.

They opened Thursday, July 14, with a 14-12 loss to Vian.

Kingfisher returned Friday to eliminate Clinton 12-3, but later that day saw its own season end with a 12-4 defeat to Apache.

The 8-under squad’s record finished at 36-9.
