Hunter Weber came alive in the fourth quarter and kept Hennessey from being Chisholm’s second big upset victim in 10 days.

Weber nailed three 3-pointers in the decisive fourth quarter Monday to lift the Eagles to a 54-41 victory on the road.

“He hit some big shots for us when we needed them,” said coach Brady Page.

Chisholm’s Kellen Epps scored with 6:23 to play to pull the Longhorns within 40-38.

The Longhorns didn’t score for another five-plus minutes as Hennessey closed on a 14-3 run.

While Weber heated up from beyond the arc, Layton Choate scored eight points in the final quarter, including making all four free throw attempts.

The two were part of a balanced attack for Hennessey, which had four players in double figures.

Weber, who was 4 of 5 from 3-point range for the game, led the way with 14 points while Choate scored 13.

Jael Torres scored 10 of his 12 points in the first half as Hennessey staked a 22-20 lead.

James Sims scored eight of his 10 points in that first half.

Just 10 days earlier, Chisholm (10-8) knocked off Class 3A’s seventh- ranked Alva 61-59 on that same court. It was just the Goldbugs’ third loss of the season.

The Longhorns outscored Hennessey 14-8 in the third quarter to claim a lead entering the fourth.

Hennessey was 12-3 after the win.

The Lady Eagles were dealt their fifth straight loss as Chisholm pulled away for a 58-34 victory.

The home team scored the game’s first 10 points and never trailed.

Hennessey did use a 12-2 run to pull within 19-17 late in the first half.

However, the Lady Longhorns answered with an 8-0 run to build another cushion.

Alice Watkins scored 21 of her game-high 23 points in the first half as Chisholm led 32-19. Chisholm then went on an 11-5 run in the third quarter.

Katie Kennedy led Hennessey with 20 points, but no other Lady Eagle reached double figures.

Hennessey had 26 turnovers as it saw its season record fall to 7-8.
