As it turned out, Carlos Martinez and Matthew Stockton weren’t finished making history last week.

The duo became Cashion’s first-ever state wrestling tournament qualifiers.

Now they own the program’s first two victories at the state tournament.

Martinez pinned Sperry’s Jacob Cook at 3:57 of their 157-pound wrestle-in match.

Stockton followed it up with a late takedown to beat Stoney Hutson of Blackwell 3-1 in a heavyweight wrestle-in.

Those wins vaulted them into the main brackets of their respective weight classes.

Once there, Martinez was pinned by Marlow’s Cade Gilbert at 4:28 in their quarterfinal.

Maverick Williamson of Saline pinned Stockton in 39 seconds in their quarterfinal bout.

Both Wildcats were still alive in the consolation bracket, which resumed on Friday (after press time).

The county’s other state qualifi er, Westyn Hopkins of Hennessey, was pinned at 1:43 of his 126-pound wrestle-in match by Blackwell’s Sabon Batton.
