Copeland is new KPS board president

For the first time in a decade, Carly Franks was not a member of the Kingfisher Board of Education.Franks served on the board for the last time during the March meeting and her seat was filled at Monday’s April regular meeting by Bill Reitz.

Board approves contract with Evans

During a special meeting in February, board members voted to remove the “interim” tag from Andy Evans’ role as superintendent.That move was pending completion of a negotiated contract.

Lightning damages wind turbine

Lightning was the apparent cause of a fire that damaged a wind turbine northeast of Dover early Friday morning.Dover Fire Department responded to a fire call at about 5:45 a.m., according to Chief Jeff Johnson.

Okarche speech members qualify for state

Over the weekend of March 29, the Okarche High School speech team attended the southwest regional competition in Weatherford.The team, coached by T.J. Harris, placed second in 3A sweepstakes.

35 have already signed up for runs at Hennessey’s Easter Fest

Early registration closed Friday for Hennessey’s 5K and 3K runs and the onemile walk.It will reopen at Bull Foot Park on run day Saturday, April 19, from 8-8:30 a.m. with a 9 a.m. start time.Registration is $15 and includes a festival t-shirt.

KHS names its March Students of the Month

Kingfisher High School has named its Students of the Month for March 2025.Students are chosen based on many characteristics including responsibility, leadership, work ethic, reliability, kindness and more.

Rotary hosts 4 KHS seniors

Four Kingfisher High School seniors were guests recently at a meeting of the Kingfisher Rotary Club. Joining the local civic group were Deacon Harjo, Donte Almanzar, Alex Montiel and Joaquin Wallace.Harjo is the son of Desirae and Ira Horse.

County receives more moisture

Crop boosting rains fell across Kingfisher County and much of Oklahoma last week.Besides putting a greener hue to local small grain fields, the rain awakened early season grasses in pastures and lawns as the county erupted into full springtime beauty.
