The names of contenders for the Kingfisher Golf Association club championship have changed over the last two decades.The name of the champion has remained mostly the same.Heath Myers shot a pair of bogey-free rounds over the weekend to topple the field with a two-day total of 128.

The Flight defeated San Antonio Hoops Elite on Sunday to win the fourth grade girls MAYB Division II national championship at the Young Family Athletic Center in Norman. The Flight had two players from Kingfisher who contributed to the championship.

Monday a big day on HS sports calendar

Next Monday marks the official start of fall sports in Oklahoma, although some are getting an early start this weekend.Aug. 11 is the day the season can open for fall baseball, fastpitch softball, volleyball and cross country.It’s also the day football teams can begin limited practice.

OCA ALL-STATE BASKETBALL

The Oklahoma Coaches Association hosted its annual coaches’ clinic and All-State Games in the Tulsa area last week. That included the girls basketball games last Tuesday and the boys basketball games on Wednesday. Three of the four games had some Kingfi sher County flavor.

DAUGHERTY SIGNS WITH THE TWINS

Kingfisher’s Ian Daugherty has more baseball to play. The former Yellowjacket All-State selection and Oklahoma State University Cowboy catcher signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Minnesota Twins organization.

Jackets advance to Final 4

Kingfisher’s season came to an end Saturday, but not before the team was able to reach the OK Kids 12U state tournament semifinals. Altus advanced to the title game with an 8-0 win over Kingfisher in Weatherford. Later in the day, Altus downed Sulphur 5-4 to win the state championship.

These Jackets are state-bound

Kingfisher’s 12-and-under baseball team downed Washington 8-4 last Saturday at Briscoe Park to win the OK Kids regional championship. The win advances the Jackets to this week’s state tournament in Weatherford.
