Officials hear update on area COVID spread

After jokingly remarking he would skip over the COVID-19 report by City-County Emergency Management Director Steve Loftis at Monday’s county commissioner meeting because it was so depressing, Commission Chairman Ray Alan Shimanek invited Loftis to speak.

Vera Kathryn Jones McIntyre passed away the afternoon of Aug. 2, 2020. She was born in Covington on Jan. 15, 1924, to John Leslie Jones Sr. and Pearl (Crews) Jones. The family quickly moved to Merrick in Lincoln County, where Kathryn spent her childhood.

Jerome Maschino

Jerome Anthony Maschino entered into eternal life July 30, 2020. Jerome was born Oct. 18, 1938, to Joseph A. and Mary E. (Kuestersteffen) Maschino in Sacred Heart. They moved to Okarche when he was young and there he lived, went to school and raised his family.

Myers ‘back’ on top at KGA championship

“Back” is a fitting word when referring to the 2020 Kingfisher Golf Association Club Championship. Despite battling nagging back issues, especially on Day 2, Heath Myers laid claim to this year’s title with a relatively comfortable five-stroke victory.

Cashion’s Woody signs with SCU

Jacob Woody will be playing his college basketball close to home. Woody last Friday signed to play at Southwestern Christian University in Bethany. A 2020 Cashion High School graduate, Woody helped guide the Wildcats to the Class 2A state tournament as a senior.

4 local youth are awarded AFR/OFU scholarships

Four area youth have been recognized as outstanding students by American Farmers & Ranchers/Oklahoma Farmers Union (AFR/OFU). Recognized were Peyton Burns and Jentry Squires of Kingfisher and Whitney Glazier and Tate Ott of Lomega.

Sweat earns WGU degree

Misty Sweat of Kingfisher recently earned a bachelor’s degree in special education from Western Governors University (WGU). The online, nonprofit university has graduated over 190,000 students from across the country since its inception in 1997.

Caldwells to celebrate 50th anniversary

John and Linda Caldwell of Dover will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this month. The couple were married Aug. 16, 1970, at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Dover when they were both 19 years old. They had two children: One son, Jay, and one daughter, Jana.
