OSU recognizes Johnsons

Mike and Judy Johnson of Kingfisher are among seven recipients selected for the Oklahoma State University Distinguished Alumni Award by the OSU Alumni Association. The Johnsons and other honorees will be recognized at a public reception at the ConocoPhillips OSU Alumni Center on Friday, Sept. 6.

Woods says HPS earlier start means enrollment number is moving target

Six students were waiting outside the high school counselor’s office to enroll on the third day of school so enrollment numbers keep changing, said Hennessey Public School Superintendent Dr. Mike Woods. He blamed late enrollments because of the early school start on Aug. 8.

Football talk at Rotary Club

JEFF MYERS, left, Kingfisher High School football coach for the past 15 years, was the guest speaker of the Kingfisher Rotary Club last Tuesday. Myers said he currently had 53 ninth through 12th graders out for football this preseason and he was excited to begin the 2019 campaign.

Surprise members prep for fair

Preparations for the Kingfisher County Free Fair was the central activity of the Surprise Extension Homemakers at their meeting, held Aug. 13 at the home of Loretta Kretchmar.   Between the five members, over 60 entries were  tagged and readied for entry.

Lady Jackets pick up district sweep

Loren Ballard and Taylor Mills combined for 9 RBIs in the first game of a double-header Tuesday to lead Kingfisher to a district softball sweep at Bethany. Ballardhadfourextra-base hits and Mills slapped an inside-the-park grand slam as part of a 13-8 victory in the opening contest.

COACH WEST WILL BE MISSED We are deeply saddened at the loss of Ray West, Okarche High School basketball coach, last week. We don’t think we have known anyone more passionate about his job (calling) than Ray was. If he wasn’t coaching basketball, he was thinking and talking (or writing) about it.
