McLoud earns comeback win over KHS

Everything looked good through five innings of Kingfisher softball’s 2019 season opener. Unfortunately, the last two innings caught up to the Lady Jackets in a 9-3 home loss to McLoud Monday night. It was also the District 4A-1 opener for both teams.

Lelen ‘Leon’ Terrell

Lelen Leon Terrell of Yukon passed away after a courageous battle with prostate cancer on Aug. 11, 2019, at the age of 88. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the Dover Christian Church with Rev. Matt Barrie officiating.

County fair starts this week

The Kingfisher County Free Fair – a county tradition since 1902 – begins Wednesday at the fairgrounds in Kingfisher. Wednesday events are the pedal tractor pull and the Farmhand Olympics. Signup for the pedal tractor pull begins at 5:30 p.m. and the competition begins at 6 p.m.

After a bone-dry July heralded another looming drought, welcome rain arrived in Kingfisher County Thursday and Friday, with all the pyrotechnics that only a summer storm can bring.Rainfall amounts, measuring from .3 inch at the Okarche Grain and Feed Elevator, west of Okarche, to 8.

Hennessey Open Rodeo set this weekend

Head to Hennessey’s Rodeo Arena Friday and Saturday, Aug. 16-17, for two nights of regulation rodeo events. Hennessey Roundup Club members say there will be kid-friendly events each night with mutton bustin’, dummy roping, calf scrambles and greased pig contests. Kid events start at 7 p.m.
