Theta Chapter recognizes its essay contest winners

Theta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International met at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at the InterBank Community Room. Delta Kappa Gamma is a society for key women educators and was founded May 11, 1929, by 12 women educators in Austin, Texas.

Bookcase Review Club meets Monday

Kingfisher Bookcase Review Club will meet Monday, April 22, at the Farm Bureau Insurance Building in Kingfisher. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. followed by a presentation by Barbara Byrd of Oklahoma City. She will present on “You’re On an Airplane” written by Parker Posey.

New arrival

Greg and Niki Black of Kingfisher announce the birth of their son, Baylor Ryan Black. Baylor was born Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. He weighed 6 pounds, 15 ounces and measured 18 1/2 inches. He has two brothers: Bryson, 6, and Beckam, 3.

Showdown is set

The bats awoke for the Kingfisher offense in the second game of a sweep of the defending state champs. Now, the Jackets are on the cusp of something bigger.

CCS beats KHS girls, helps them out later

Crossings Christian School didn’t do Kingfisher any favors Tuesday, but did on Thursday. The Knights defeated KHS 2-0 in a District 4A-2 game Tuesday night in Kingfisher to put the Lady Jackets’ postseason hopes in peril.

AWARDS SEASON

With a state championship and the most talented team in school history come a plethora of individual awards and postseason honors. That’s the case for the Kingfisher High School boys basketball team and coaches.

Kamas is conference golf champ

Purcell won the team championship, but it was Maddi Kamas crowned the individual champ Wednesday at the Canadian Valley Conference Girls Golf Tournament. Kamas shot a 78 to beat Purcell’s Jade McCurdy by three strokes at Brent Bruehl Memorial Golf Course, McCurdy’s home course.

IRON FIVE - The Oklahoma Eagles Elite basketball team played in the Adidas Gauntlet National Qualifying Tournament last weekend in Indianapolis, Ind., against strong competition from several states.

Loosen, York lead KHS at CV conference meet

Madeline Loosen won a pair of gold medals and placed in two other events to help highlight Kingfisher’s showing at the Canadian Valley Conference Track and Field Meet last week. Loosen won the 800 and was part of the winning 3,200 meter relay team.

Local 4-H students fill ‘foster bags’ for DHS

Part of being a 4-H member is learning the importance of helping others and giving back to the community. April is National Child Abuse Awareness Month and in order to try to give back, Kingfisher County 4-H members gathered 108 foster bags to be donated to DHS.
