Public school advocate talks with Rotary

Mark Ross of Tulsa was the guest speaker of the Kingfisher Rotary Club last Tuesday. Ross, who was raised in Tulsa, graduated from the Notre Dame School of Law and later worked as an attorney specializing in mergers and acquisitions.

Among the dozens of banners hanging in the Okarche High School gym is one representing a state championship in boys basketball. The Warriors defeated Turner 65-61 in overtime in the 1979 Class A championship game to give the storied program its lone gold ball.

KHS golfers 7th at large school tourney

Kingfisher began making preparations for the golf postseason Monday with its first 36-hole tournament of the year. The Yellowjackets shot a combined 648 at the Class 6A Pre-Regional at Meadowlake Golf Course in Enid.

Ian Daugherty’s dominance on the mound came through in the clutch Monday to provide Kingfisher with a crucial district win. The sophomore threw a two-hit shutout as KHS edged Elgin 1-0 on the road to stay unbeaten in District 4A-2 games.

Field events benefit locals at Chisholm meet

Local athletes were close to dominant in the field events in last Friday’s Chisholm High School Track and Field Invitational. Cashion’s Madelyn Mc-Cabe swept the jumping events while Hennessey’s Madison Collier took home a gold and silver in the throwing events.

Soccer nets huge win; schedule changes made

Playoff hopes are within grasp of the Kingfisher girls soccer team after a thrilling shootout win last week. The Lady Jackets defeated Woodward 2-1 after shootout goals from Matiland Pickle, Nayeli Gutierrez and Chelsea Johnson.

Basketball honors rolling in

Basketball honors have been rolling in the past week for a number of Kingfisher County players. From all-star teams to regional and state players of the year, the awards have come in abundance.

Kamas bags 2 more wins

Chalk up wins No. 4 and 5 for Kingfisher’s Maddi Kamas. The KHS sophomore picked up two more medalist honors in the past week as she continues to be the hottest girls golfer in Oklahoma.
