3 area squads Game Day state-bound

Three local schools have advanced to the OSSAA’s Game Day cheer state competition.

Cheer squads from Kingfisher, Cashion and Crescent all qualified after competing in regionals last Saturday.

KHS was sixth at the 4A regional held in Enid.

Cashion and Crescent tied for fifth at the 2A regional in Stroud.

State will be held Saturday at Moore High School.

Cashion will make its preliminary round performance at 9:20 a.m.

Crescent will perform at 9:55 a.m.

The top-six scores after the preliminary rounds will advance to the finals, which begin at 10:35 a.m.

Kingfisher competes in the 4A prelims at 3:10 p.m.

The six finalists will begin competing at 3:40 p.m.

KHS scored 394.4 points at the regional.

Teams are scored on fight song, crowd leading and band dance.

Crossings Christian was the regional champ with 445.6 points.

Christian Heritage was the runner-up with 424.2.

Also qualifying for state were Heritage Hall, Bridge Creek, Pauls Valley, Elk City, Lindsay, Bristow, Seminole, Inola, Sallisaw, Bethany, Plainview, Holland Hall and Lincoln Christian.

The top-15 scores move on from the regional to state, but Holland Hall and Lincoln Christian tied for the final spot, advancing both squads.

In 2A, Cashion and Crescent both scored 383.4 points.

Haworth won the regional with 418.4 points and Arkoma was second with 400.

Also moving on are Dibble, Turpin, Grandfield, Boone-Apache, Hominy, Central (Sallisaw), Pawnee, Commerce, Velma-Alma, Preston and Ketchum.

Crescent won the 2020 Class 2A Game Day state championship and Cashion was third.

Crescent followed that up with the 2021 2A competitive cheer state championship held in September. Cashion tied for state runner-up.

KHS was fourth at last year’s Game Day state.
