A career night by a Kingfisher senior kickstarted the Yellowjackets’ bid to win another state championship.

Top-ranked KHS blitzed Harrah 74-44 Saturday at the APB to win their Class 4A district title matchup.

Chase Davis poured in a career-high 31 points in just 21 minutes of action.

He scored at least six points in every quarter and had 18 by halftime as the Jackets led 40-17.

Davis had 25 points after three quarters, then made his fourth and fifth treys of the game in the fourth.

All told, Davis was 11 of 15 from the field, including 5 of 9 from 3-point range.

However, the rest of the Jackets went just 1 of 12 from beyond the arc.

That came from Xavier Ridenour in the second quarter.

Ridenour finished with 16 points.

Despite shooting under 29 percent on 3-pointers, Kingfisher still shot 51.1 percent overall.

The Jackets were 17 of 24 from two-point range and scored 32 points in the paint.

Maddox Mecklenburg had eight of those as part of his 10 points.

Kingfisher was also 22 of 30 from the foul line while Harrah shot just eight free throws overall.

The game started with a set that led to an easy Davis bucket as Kingfisher scored the first seven points.

Harrah pulled within 11-7 before the Jackets ended the quarter on a 9-0 run, including the same set with the same result…a Davis bump off the glass.

The Jackets forced 20 turnovers in the game, including four steals by Cash Slezickey, who also led the team with four assists.

The win was the eighth straight for KHS as it improved to 22-1.

Kingfisher hosts Woodward at 8:30 p.m. Friday in a regional winner’s bracket game.

The game was originally scheduled for Thursday, but the OSSAA announced several playoff postponements ahead of potential inclement weather this week.

The Boomers defeated Elk City 76-54 in their district matchup.

Lady Jackets pull away from Harrah

It took some extra prodding by coach Taylor Young, but Kingfisher finally started to pull away in its district championship.

The Lady Jackets defeated Harrah 56-35 Saturday in their 4A playoff opener at the APB.

The 21-point win came despite KHS leading by just two after a quarter and by nine at the half.

Young benched her starters in the first after several unforced errors and other miscues helped keep the Lady Panthers in the game.

After scoring just eight in the opening frame, Kingfisher broke loose for 20 second-quarter points.

Allison Green and Makina Frost knocked down 3-pointers while Rayland Garner scored eight points in the quarter.

Garner eventually led the team with 20 points, 12 rebounds and four steals.

Green heated up from long range in the second half. She had two treys in each the third and fourth quarters as KHS methodically pulled away.

The senior finished with 19 points.

Frost scored all seven of her points in the second frame.

The Lady Jackets, ranked sixth in 4A, forced 18 turnovers and scored 16 points off of them.

KHS had 16 turnovers of its own, but they resulted in just five points for the visitors.

Now 19-4, Kingfisher will host Woodward at 7 p.m. Friday to open the regional tournament. Woodward knocked off Elk City 56-32 in its district championship.
