Dover girls hold on at Covington-Douglas

Dover built up some breathing room in the third quarter, then held on in the fourth.

The Lady ‘Horns nabbed a 51-46 road win Tuesday at Covington-Douglas...but it was tough.

They outscored the Lady Wildcats 17-8 in the third quarter to build an eight-point and then made 10 of 16 free throws in the fourth to help preserve it as the home team attempted to press its way to the victory.

The win was Dover’s second straight and fourth in five games. It upped its overall mark to 5-3.

Five different Lady Longhorns scored in the first quarter as the teams traded buckets.

The back-and-forth affair saw the hosts leading 22-21 at halftime.

But Karlee McNulty nailed two 3-pointers and scored eight points as part of Dover’s big push in the third.

The Lady Wildcats knocked down a trio of 3-pointers and also got eight points from Stoney Haken in the fourth quarter.

However, Dover held them off. of 5 from the foul line in the final eight minutes.

Karlee Harviston, Karlee McNulty, Katelyn Harviston and Hadlee Bryan all contributed from the charity stripe while Yareli Obeso knocked down a big 3-pointer.

Karlee McNulty eventually led the team with 12 points.

Karlee Harviston added 11 while Kamree McNulty scored nine.

Wildcats tame Dover boys

Covington-Douglas had enough firepower to hold off the Dover Longhorns in their Tuesday night clash.

Dover made a fourth-quarter charge, but the hosts had a bigger one as the Wildcats won it 59-40.

Covington-Douglas led 38-25 entering the fourth.

In that last frame, the Longhorns got seven points from Kolten Shaw and six from Ashton Caldwell.

The Wildcats countered with Parker Smith.

The senior guard buried 12 of his game-high 25 points as the Wildcats extended their lead.

Shaw led Dover with 17 points. He scored 13 in the second half.

Damion Turner added eight points.
