Hennessey was able to control the ball.

Luther was able to control the scoreboard.

The Lions put an end to Hennessey’s season last Friday with a 42-14 victory at home.

The loss put the Eagles at 5-5 for the season and 3-4 in District 2A-1.

That record put them in a three-way tie with Alva and Blackwell for fourth place in the district.

Since the three teams all beat each other in head-tohead games, district points were brought in to decide the tie-breaker.

Alva, which beat Chisholm 46-14 on Friday, finished with minus-15 points. Hennessey had minus-22 and Blackwell, which lost 55-0 to Oklahoma Christian School, was minus-29.

Hennessey had more than 33 minutes of possession time, nearly 20 minutes more than Luther.

However, the Lions turned their opportunities into points and led 34-0 at halftime and 42-0 by the end of the third.

The Eagles ran it 38 times for 137 yards.

Keigen Crites got 25 of those carries and netted 129 yards.

Through the air, Langston Smith hauled in a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns from Seth Gonzalez.

They covered 6 and 18 yards, respectively.

He caught eight total passes for 107 yards.

Gonzalez was 13 of 25 for 153 yards and two interceptions. One was returned for a touchdown to give the Lions the first score of the game.

He had seven tackles and a fumble recovery on defense.

Juan Castanon led the team with nine stops.
