Hennessey enters break on pair of positive notes

Both of Hennessey’s basketball teams will be entering the break on a positive note.

The HHS girls downed Harding Fine Arts 69-19 Tuesday at the Eagle Event Center and the boys followed suit with their own 75-33 victory.

For coach Courtney Markes’ team, it was a second win in three games.

Kassidy Amburn scored 10 points and Harlee Dowell eight as the Lady Eagles got out to a 23-2 lead.

They never looked back.

Larissa Macy made two of her three 3-pointers in the second quarter as the lead swelled to 33 points.

Hennessey made seven 3-pointers as a team.

Dowell and Amburn scored 15 points apiece.

Macy ended her night with 13.

The Harding Fine Arts boys kept it close for a quarter, but the game quickly turned in the second.

The Eagles were up 11-10 when they went on a 32-3 run in the second quarter.

“The press was working and guys hit shots for us,” coach Brady Page said.

Jael Torres scored 13 points during the third-quarter run, which included six field goals.

Timmie Perry came off the bench to knock down two of his four 3-pointers in the game and had eight in the decisive quarter. Layton Choate added

Layton Choate added six more as HFA had no answers.

Torres finished up with 21 points.

Perry scored 14 and Cristian Rodriguez, who nailed a trio of treys, added 11 points.

The win improved the Eagles to 4-2.

Hennessey’s girls are 2-4 and both teams are off until they travel to Crescent on Jan. 4.
