Lauren Jenkins came up with just enough big plays late to give Cashion perhaps its biggest win of the season.

Jenkins scored three points in the final 18 seconds and then sealed a 33-31 win over Alva with a steal.

The victory came Friday night at Enid High School during the second day of the Skordle Basketball Festival.

Alva entered ranked 12th in 3A and the teams battled back and forth much of the game.

The Ladybugs were up a point after the third quarter and led 31-30 with under a minute to go.

Jenkins had a chance to tie it or even give Cashion the lead, but missed the front end of a one-and-one with 42 seconds to play.

However, Alva did the same just three seconds after that, giving Cashion another shot.

Jenkins made good on it as she drove diagonally through the lane and coaxed in a shot as she got fouled.

She missed her free throw, but Cashion still led 32-31.

Alva then threw the ball out of bounds with 4.7 seconds left.

Jenkins was fouled and sent to the line with 3.6 to play and she made her first attempt.

The second shot spun around the rim and fell out. As Alva tried to advance the ball for a last-second shot, Jenkins intercepted it.

The sophomore scored six points as did Megan Shafer.

Cashion was led by Brook Shelly’s 12 points.

The Lady Wildcats are now 9-8 on the season. Their other win against a ranked foe this season saw them beat 5A No. 16 Bishop McGuinness 53-50 on Jan. 17.

Alva puts clamps on Cashion offense

Jonah Jenkins returned to the Cashion lineup on Friday, but it wasn’t enough to spur a win against Alva.

The Goldbugs limited Cashion to 29 percent shooting and their lowest offensive output of the season in a 34-29 win Friday in the marquee game of the Skordle Basketball Festival at Enid High School.

Alva entered ranked third in 3A while Cashion held the same spot in Class 2A.

Both teams had trouble cracking the other’s defense.

But Alva’s 17-10 advantage in the middle two quarters proved to be enough as the Goldbugs improved to 18-2.

Kyler Penco scored 14 points to lead Alva.

Cashion countered with Austin Frazier’s 13 points.

Landon LaGasse added eight points and seven rebounds.

However, the Wildcats struggled from 3-point range as they shot just 2 of 13. Frazier made both.

Jenkins played for the first time since injuring his shoulder on Jan. 7.

He scored two points and had two rebounds.

Cashion was playing a highly-ranked team for the third time in four games.

It defeated 3A No. 1 Oklahoma Christian School on Jan. 21 and then lost to 2A No. 1 Dale the next night.

The Wildcats entered this week with a 12-5 record.
