It wasn’t as easy as it appeared it might be after three quarters, but the Dover Lady Longhorns are district champs.

Despite surrendering a double-digit lead at home in the fourth quarter, Dover dominated the extra period Saturday to hold off Fort Cobb-Broxton 55-46 in their Class B district title game.

Joi Caldwell scored eight of her game-high 18 points in the extra period as Dover outscored the Lady Mustangs 14-5.

The win keeps Dover in the winner’s bracket entering this week’s regional.

The Lady Longhorns host 12th-ranked Paden at 6:30 p.m. Thursday to open the regional.

Win or lose, the remainder of the regional games will be played in Coyle.

Dover appeared ready to coast into that winner’s bracket slot after outscoring Fort Cobb-Broxton by four in the third quarter to extend its lead to 39-30.

However, the Lady Longhorns managed just two points in the fourth quarter.

A run that was 12-0 overall saw the visitors tie the game at 39-39.

Karlee Harviston’s bucket late in the fourth quarter put the Lady Longhorns back up, but a pair of free throws with 1:03 to play tied it once again.

Neither team scored the rest of regulation as Dover failed to get off a shot in the waning seconds.

Caldwell had eight points at halftime, but just two points combined in the second and third quarters.

She reawakened in the overtime period with four field goals.

Harviston added four more points as Dover pulled away.

She finished with 13.

Katelyn Harviston scored 14 for Dover, all through the first three quarters.

Turner, Shaw deliver huge buckets as Dover boys extend season

Sye Griffen got the most points.

Kolten Shaw got the last laugh.

Shaw caught a pass from teammate Damion Turner and laid it in at the buzzer Friday night to lift Dover to a dramatic 65-64 victory over Oilton.

The win came at home in a Class B district elimination game.

Oilton saw its season end despite getting 37 points from Griffen.

The senior post player scored seven in the fourth quarter and had his team on the verge of advancing to Saturday’s district final.

However, Turner had different intentions.

He sank a late 3-pointer to force the extra frame.

Griffen scored five more in overtime, but so did Shaw, including the game-winner.

Shaw ended his night with a career-high 32 points, including 11 in the third quarter when Dover erased a five-point halftime deficit.

Turner scored seven of his nine points in the fourth, including the game-tying trey.

Griffen was fouled with just seconds left and the game tied in overtime.

He made the first to give Oilton a one-point lead.

Griffen missed the second and Turner grabbed the rebound.

The senior pushed it up the right side of the court, drew a triple team in the corner and then fed Shaw for the game-winning shot on the low block.

It was a similar situation to end regulation.

Oilton had chances to put the Longhorns away, but was just 2 for 5 from the free throw line in the final 30 seconds.

Griffen stepped to the line with his team up two with about five seconds to play. He made the first and missed the second.

Orlando Lozano pulled down the rebound and got it to Turner.

Turner pushed it down the court and put up an off-balance 3-pointer with Griffen’s hand in his face.

It found the bottom of the net to tie the game as the buzzer sounded.

Lozano and Pedro Valles added eight apiece for the Longhorns, who guaranteed themselves a spot in this week’s regional with the win.

Dover goes into the regional in the loser’s bracket after Saturday’s 77-41 loss to No. 8 Fort Cobb-Broxton.

The Longhorns were already down 34-18 at halftime when the Mustangs opened the second half with a 33-9 run.

Four players scored in double figures for the visitors, including 20 from Ian Taylor.

Turner and Shaw scored 12 apiece for Dover.

The Longhorns host Oaks Mission at 3 p.m. Thursday in a regional consolation quarterfinal.

A win would advance the Longhorns to Friday as the remainder of the regional will be played at Coyle.
