Lady Jackets finish 4th at Highway 33 Classic

Kingfisher was undefeated in the middle portion of the Highway 33 Classic last weekend.
It was the first and last games that got the Lady Jackets.
KHS settled for fourth place in its own softball tournament after Saturday’s 5-2 loss to Guthrie JV in the third-place game.
The loss snapped a threegame win streak for the Lady Jackets after they opened the tournament Thursday with a heartbreaking loss.
Merrin Evans broke open a 2-2 tie with Clinton in the opener with a tworun single in the top of the fifth inning.
However, the Lady Reds scored three times in the bottom half of the inning - the last two with two outs - to pull out a 5-4 victory.
The game had the makings of a shootout early on as both teams scored two runs in the first inning. That included a two-run single by Evans.
But Evans and her counterpart settled down and neither allowed another run until the fifth.
The Lady Jackets bounced back Thursday evening and avenged one of their season losses by defeating Watonga 7-4.
Down 2-1, KHS scored six runs in the top of the fifth inning.
The first seven batters reached base safely in the frame and six of them scored.
Mya Dewberry, Emma Lukasek and Jodie Hill delivered RBI singles in the inning while Evans drove in three with her double.
Natalie Dick and Dewberry had three hits apiece in the game while Evans, who pitched a majority of the tournament’s innings for KHS, got the win.
Friday offered a pair of blowout wins for the Lady Jackets.
First up was a 12-5 victory over Enid JV that included a 10-run second inning.
Siera Stitt’s double produced two runs while Gentry Taylor, Dick, Lukasek and Hill had run-scoring singles.
Hill and Taylor had two hits apiece while Brittany Willson was 2 for 3 with a pair of runs scored.
Dick, batting leadoff, was 3 for 4 with two runs.
The offensive onslaught continued against McLoud as KHS pounded 27 hits in a 24-8 victory.
Kingfisher scored nine times in the third, then followed it with a 10-run fourth inning.
Dewberry was responsible for 10 of those runs as she collected seven RBIs and scored three more times.
The junior was 5 for 5 at the plate with four extra-base hits.
She connected on a tworun triple in the first and then an RBI triple in the second.
The third inning saw her deliver an RBI double.
In the fourth, Dewberry got two plate appearances and delivered in both.
The first time up, she drove in two runs with a double and then sent another running home with a single later in the frame.
Dick was 4 for 5 and scored four times while also driving in three runs.
Kynli Boeckman and Stitt had three hits, three RBIs and scored twice each.
In the third place game, Guthrie was able to plate three runs off of four hits in the first inning.
KHS was only able to cut its deficit to as few as two runs.
Evans was 2 for 3 in the game and drove in a run.
The Lady Jackets returned to District 4A-4 action Monday with a home sweep over John Marshall.
KHS got run-rule wins of 13-0 and 12-0 to even its district record at 2-2.
Dick pitched both games for KHS and struck out eight over three innings while surrendering four hits in the opener.
The Lady Jackets had just four hits as they drew 15 walks against Lady Bears pitching.
Dewberry was 2 for 2, drove in two runs and scored twice.
Lukasek had three RBIs while Dick, Stitt and Mills had two apiece.
In the nightcap, Dick gave up two hits while striking out two.
KHS saw more pitches to hit and delivered nine hits on top of eight walks.
Evans had a three-run double in the first inning and pushed two more across with a triple in the second.
Dewberry had a two-RBI double in the second frame while Taylor had RBI hits in both innings.
After the sweep, KHS was 9-5 overall and 2-2 in the district.
The Lady Jackets traveled to Blanchard for a district double-header Tuesday (after press time).
