Braxton Mecklenburg is one of the best high jumpers in the state.

He’s now officially the best to ever do it in his own home.

The Kingfisher High School senior set a new personal record last Friday in winning the high jump at the Chisholm Track & Field Invitational.

Mecklenburg cleared 6 feet, 7 inches to beat by one inch the best jump he’d had to date.

It also bested the 6-6 his father, Kyle, was able to jump as a KHS athlete.

Mecklenburg already had the event won well before clearing his new PR.

Nicholas Walker of Watonga was the runner-up after jumping 5-10.

Mecklenburg also tried 6-8, which is what won Class 4A a year ago. His second attempt was his closest, but eventually he scratched out at the height.

The Pittsburg State signee has won the high jump in each meet this season.

The Jackets got two more golds from sprinter Maximus Washington.

He claimed wins in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes.

Washington won the 100 in 11.40, edging Alva’s Weston Tucker’s time of 11.48.

Alva’s Drake Wharton was the 200 runner-up as Washington got to the line in 23.55, which was .10 faster than Wharton.

Connor Hine hauled in a pair of bronze medals.

The senior was third in the 400 with his time of 55.16.

He was also a part of the third-place 800 relay team, which finished in 1:37.03. Joining him were Kale Hart, Washington and Cade Cooper.

Harrison Evans nearly made the medal stand as he was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 41-7.

The Jackets were fifth as a team with 53 points.

North Rock Creek won the meet with 129, one point better than the host school.

Alva was third with 100.5 and Crossings Christian fourth with its 91.

Cashion was eighth with 23 points.

Boedy Butler picked up a silver medal in the 110 hurdles while Luke Holt was third in the 3,200.
