County girls teams meet up on final day of Garber tournament

Okarche bounced back from its first loss of the season to beat a county rival for some hardware.

The Lady Warriors on Saturday night held off Cashion 50-47 to win third place in the NEXTera Energy Resources Invitational at Garber.

Three Okarche players reached double-digit scoring in the win, led by Emma Stover’s 20 points.

A group effort in the fourth helped hold off a late charge by Lauren Lamb and the Lady Wildcats.

Lamb scored 10 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter as Cashion cut its six-point deficit in half.

Stover scored five in the fourth while Jadyn Rother, Sophie Vandendriessche and Jalie Rother chipped in three apiece to help the Lady Warriors move to 10-1.

That mark in the loss column came to 2A’s seventh-ranked Hooker in Friday’s semifinals.

Hollie Stadler scored 25 points for the Lady Bulldogs as they emerged to win a game that was close throughout. Hooker went on to defeat Garber for the tournament title.

Adyson Arms and Jalie Rother scored 11 points apiece in defeat. Jadyn Rother added 10.

Cashion, playing just a few hours after its football team won the Class A state title game in Edmond, also got 11 points from Lauren Jenkins.

Garber outscored the Lady Wildcats 30-21 in the second half on Friday to pull out a 45-40 semifinal win.

Lamb scored 14 in that loss.

Jenkins and Megan Shafer scored eight apiece.

The tournament was the first action of the season for Cashion, which is now 1-2.

The team opened its season Thursday with a 50-20 win over Newkirk in the quarterfinals.

The game was close until Cashion closed with a 20-0 run.

Shafer poured in 19 points while Jenkins scored 11 and Brook Shelly 10.

Warriors claim consolation championship

Two straight wins to close out the tournament allowed the Okarche boys to go home as consolation champs.

The second of those victories was a 76-50 triumph Saturday over Tonkawa.

Up three at halftime, the Warriors went on a 26-5 run in the third quarter to wrestle control of the game.

Okarche got 21 points out of Trenton Neiderer, who went 7 of 14 from 3-point range.

Hunter Mueggenborg scored 18 points while Caden Schieber and Wyatt Pinkerton added 11 apiece.

Eleven different Warriors scored in their 81- 11 win against Olive on Friday.

P.K. Harris led that balanced attack with 13 points. Neiderer scored 10.

That win came after a 51-47 loss to Newkirk in the quarterfinals, which snapped what was a sixgame win streak for the Warriors.

Newkirk got out to a 14-3 lead en route to winning.

Harris scored 15 and Pinkerton 11 for the Warriors.

Okarche was 8-3 overall at the end of the tournament.

Cashion’s varsity boys didn’t field a team in the tournament. They’re playing later this month at the Tournament of Champions in Tulsa.
