Okarche splits with Cordell after long hiatus

Okarche returned to the court last Tuesday for the first time in more than three weeks.

And looked the part early.

However, the Lady Warriors shrugged off the rust and eventually found their way to a 60-39 win at Cordell.

It was their first game since Dec. 12 as Okarche soon after went into quarantine protocol prior to the Christmas break hitting.

It was the second time this season Okarche’s teams have sat an extended period of time due to the protocol.

The Lady Warriors didn’t show it offensively early as they raced to 17 first-quarter points.

However, Cordell kept pace for the entire first half and much of the third quarter as well.

The game was tied at half and Okarche led by just four entering the fourth.

But after surrendering double digits in each of the previous three quarters, Okarche didn’t give up a field goal in the fourth and closed on a 19-2 run.

While Cordell couldn’t hit from the floor in the final eight minutes, six different Lady Warriors managed to do so.

One of them was Madison Owens, who led the team with 15 points.

Karsyn Vallerand added 13.

Emma Stover scored five of her nine points in the final quarter. Tyson Endres and Sophie Vandendriessche scored six apiece.

ThewinpushedOkarche to 4-2 and snapped a twogame losing skid dating back to the last two games of the tournament in Garber.

Blue Devils slow down Okarche boys

Cordell controlled the middle two quarters and that proved enough to topple Okarche 50-44.

The Blue Devils outscored their guests 34-18 in the middle two frames.

Okarche couldn’t overcome that as it shot just 35 percent (18 of 51) for the game. The Warriors also shot just two free throws all night.

The Warriors got 10 points from Evan Endres.

Joseph Schaefer added nine points and P.K. Harris eight. Logan Kroener scored seven to go with his seven rebounds.

Okarche led 12-9 after a quarter, but the Blue Devils soon took command.

The Warriors managed to hold Cordell to 34 percent shooting, but gave up 13 offensive rebounds while Cordell outscored them 7-1 from the foul stripe.

The loss evened up Okarche’s record at 3-3.
