Six Kingfisher High School basketball players and a coach earned honors when the Western Athletic Conference coaches announced the all-conference teams.

Jared Reese was named boys coach of the year after he guided the Yellowjackets to an 11-0 record and the conference title.

Along with KHS, the conference includes Anadarko, Bethany, Blanchard, Elgin, Cache, Weatherford, Tuttle, Chickasha, Elk City, Newcastle and Clinton.

The conference made up nearly 40 percent of the Class 4A boys state tournament…100 percent of the public schools that made it as Blanchard and Weatherford joined KHS in the field.

The Jackets’ Xavier Ridenour and Caden Kitchens were named first-team selections for the conference.

Maddox Mecklenburg was a second-team pick.

All three are juniors. Ridenour led KHS with 13.7 points a game. He added 2.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals as Kingfisher completed a 28-1 record and won the state title.

Kitchens was third on the team with 10.1 points and led the team with 5.8 rebounds a game.

Mecklenburg had averages of 7.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists per contest.

The conference made up half of the field in 4A girls state tournament as Tuttle was the state runner-up, Weatherford was a semifinalist and both Blanchard and KHS were quarterfinalists.

The Lady Jackets were third in the conference be hind Tuttle and Weatherford with their 9-2 record.

For their efforts, seniors Rayland Garner and Allison Green were first-team all-conference picks.

Sophomore Peyton Walker was tabbed for the second team.

Garner led the team with 14.3 points and 6.6 rebounds a game while making 53.9 percent of her shots.

Green averaged 11.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists.

Walker led the team with 3.2 assists. She added 6.6 points and 2.3 boards a contest.

KHS finished the year

24-6 overall.

Reese kept Tuttle from sweeping the coach and top player honors.

Tuttle’s Brian Lester was coach of the year for the girls.

Landry Allen (girls) and Isaac McDoulett (boys) were named the conference’s players of the year.
