The Western Athletic Conference championship still belongs with Kingfisher.

The Yellowjackets wrapped up yet another conference crown Thursday with a 61-43 win at Blanchard.

The victory pushed the Jackets to 19-1 overall and 9-0 in the conference with two conference games remaining (vs. Elgin on Friday and at Bethany on Monday).

At press time, Tuttle was second in the conference, but already has two conference losses, including the head-to-head with Kingfisher.

The Jackets haven’t lost a conference game since the 2016-17 season (vs. Tuttle).

They made sure Blanchard was void of upset thoughts early as Kingfisher scored the game’s first 14 points and held Blanchard scoreless for the first 5:18.

Caden Kitchens sparked that early run with three 3-pointers and 11 points in the first quarter.

Xavier Ridenour and Chase Davis scored five apiece in the second as KHS pushed its advantage to 35-13 at the half.

After a sluggish start to the third quarter, the Jackets closed it strong and then continued to mount a lead into the fourth.

The lead was 61-32 on Matthew Mecklenburg’s bucket with just over 2:00 to play.

After a Blanchard timeout, the Lions scored 11 straight points to close the game.

Ridenour led all scorers with 18 points while Kitchens scored 10 for the Jackets.

Davis ended with eight.

Jackets handle Clinton

In a game that saw 48 free throws, Kingfisher won it beyond the 3-point line.

The Jackets outscored No. 18 Clinton by 21 points beyond the arc Tuesday in a 72-52 victory at the APB.

The Red Tornadoes were able to keep up in several offensive categories.

They made 15 two point field goals to Kingisher’s 14.

The Jackets were 17 of 23 from the free throw line while Clinton made 16 of its 25 attempts.

However, the Reds were only 2 of 12 from 3-point range.

That, plus Kingfisher’s depth, was more than enough to lift the Jackets.

Six different KHS players made at least one trey as the team went 9 of 20.

After a back-and-forth first quarter, KHS started to create some distance in the second.

Jax Sternberger and Chase Davis both made treys as they increased the lead to 31-24 at halftime.

Davis hit two more in the third as the lead swelled to 52-36.

The 21-point third quarter saw six different Jackets score.

Four of them reached double digits.

Cash Slezickey and Xavier Ridenour had 14 apiece.

Slezickey scored seven in the first quarter and closed out the game going 4 for 4 from the foul line in the final frame.

Davis scored 11 while Maddox Mecklenburg scored 10, five in the first quarter.

KHS was able to force 17 turnovers and turned them into 22 points.

It helped offset Clinton’s Caden Powell’s performance.

The University of Oklahoma baseball commitment scored 17 points and had nine rebounds.

However, he was also forced into a game-high six turnovers.

Davis had eight rebounds while Sternberger had five.

Prior to the night’s games Davis, Navarri Chin, Braxton Mecklenburg and Mason Snider were recognized on “Senior Night.”

Snider was crowned homecoming king as well and was introduced as a starter, though he didn’t officially take the court.

Snider tore his ACL in a preseason scrimmage. He had surgery on the ACL on Thursday.
