Yellowjackets’ baseball run ends at regional

Sulphur scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday to end Kingfisher’s season at a Class 4A regional.

Andrew McCurry’s bases-loaded single scored Ashton Billings to give the Bulldogs a 9-8 victory in the elimination game.

The Jackets’ season ended with a 13-24 record.

They were sent to the consolation bracket of the double-elimination regional with a 23-4 loss to host Tuttle.

Tuttle later defeated Ada 13-5 to move into the regional championship.

Sulphur opened with a 5-2 loss to Ada. After defeating KHS, the Bulldogs avenged that loss by defeating Ada 5-4 in an elimination game.

The Bulldogs’ run ended there as Tuttle won the regional, 7-0.

Kingfisher twice erased deficits against Sulphur.

The Bulldogs plated three runs in the bottom of first before KHS knotted it up with three of its own in the second.

James Perdue and Isaiah Medellin had RBI singles while Tate Barton drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

The Bulldogs scored two more in the bottom half and the score remained 5-3 until the fifth.

Tanner Parker pulled the Jackets within a run in the fifth with an RBI single that scored Slade Snodgrass.

Eli Johnson, with his second hit of the game, tied it up by driving home Brayden States.

The Jackets got their first lead in the sixth.

Snodgrass and Medellin delivered RBI singles for a 7-5 lead.

It was 8-5 after States’ groundout was able to push home Snodgrass.

Sulphur made it 8-7 in the bottom of the sixth.

Snodgrass made way for Perdue on the mound after the sixth.

He gave up nine hits and four earned runs after walking six and sriking out three.

Sulphur was able to load the bases against Perdue.

After he struck out one Bulldog batter, they were able to deliver the game-tying and game-winning hits.

Snodgrass, Medellin and Johnson had two hits apiece for KHS.

Medellin drove in two total runs while Snodgrass scored twice.
