Governor appoints Sanders to Funeral Board

Gov. Kevin Stitt recently appointed former Oklahoma State Rep. and House Majority Leader Mike Sanders to serve a five-year term on the Oklahoma Funeral Board. The 116-year-old, seven-member board is the state licensing and regulatory agency for the funeral service profession.

Amanda K. Demackiewicz-Schovanec of Kingfisher graduated with a doctor of osteopathic medicine degree at the Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine commencement ceremony held on May 15. She was one of 118 medical students who graduated from OSU-COM this spring.

Traffic accidents

The following traffic accidents are being investigated by the Kingfisher Police Department: June 1, 5:30 a.m. - At South Main Street and Bowman Avenue. A 16-year-old female, Yukon, driving a 2018 Nissan Sentra, was eastbound on West Bowman Avenue.

Four area students graduate from recent Cadet Lawman Academy

Three area seniors and one recent local high school graduate were among the 86 graduates in Oklahoma’s 47th Cadet Lawman Academy at Connors State College in Warner. Those cadet grads are Jay Jech, Hennessey; Xander Bolner, Kingfisher; Heather Wade, Cashion, and Hanna Culp, Piedmont.

Kingfisher High School had yet another strong delegation at the 2021 Oklahoma American Legion Boys State. Boys State has been an annual gathering of selected Oklahoma high school junior boys where they learn about leadership, government and patriotism.

When bids were opened for the Kingfisher cheer and softball facility in April 2019, everyone involved was shocked by the sticker price…in a good way. The shock returned on June 1 when bids were unsealed for additions to the high school campus’ agriculture barn.
