A rough defensive day helped lead to the end of Kingfisher’s baseball season.The Jackets committed eight errors Friday in a 9-5 loss to Harrah in a Class 4A regional tournament elimination game in Tuttle.

Kingfisher survived the first day of its Class 4A baseball regional.After dropping their opener 4-1 to Harrah, the Jackets bounced back Thursday to eliminate Douglass 15-3 in the double-elimination bracket being played at Tuttle.

Hennessey survived the 36-hole trek through Boiling Springs Golf Course in Woodward to find a path to the state tournament.The Eagles placed third Thursday in a Class 3A boys golf regional to automatically qualify for state.Hennessey fired off rounds of 346 and 328 for a 674 total.

One year ago, Kingfisher’s hopes of reaching the state tournament were dashed on its home course.All but one of the Jacket golfers shot in the 80s or higher in a 4A regional at Kingfisher Golf Course and the Yellowjackets missed qualifying for state by five strokes.

The game meant nothing to the two teams set to play.It meant everything to Kingfisher.Nothing won out and because of it, Kingfisher will miss out on the soccer playoffs due in large part to a technicality.

Eighteen holes of golf can help feed an untold number of Kingfisher County’s most vulnerable citizens.That’s the purpose of the Kingfisher Golf Association’s annual Benefit Golf Tournament.This year’s tournament - the 10th to be held at Kingfisher Golf Course - is Saturday, May 3.
