A big hit off the bat of Kendall Farrar early in the game and another from Adlee Friesen late helped deliver Kingfisher its first win of the season and Tiffany Goodwin the first of her young coaching career.

Farrar hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning and Friesen delivered a bases-clearing double in the fifth Tuesday as Kingfisher downed visiting Bethany 8-2.

It came one day after the Lady Jackets were shutout by Enid, 6-0, in their season opener. Tuesday’s win was the first District 4A-3 contest for both teams.

Farrar kickstarted the fast start by the Lady Jackets when she belted an offering over the centerfield wall for an early 2-0 lead.

Kingfisher wasn’t done as it took advantage of two Bethany errors and an RBI double from Lily Voth for a 4-0 lead after one frame.

Bethany settled down in the circle - and in the field - and kept Kingfisher scoreless over the next three innings.

Meanwhile, the Bronchos strung together three straight hits off Voth in the top of the fourth, one of them leading to a run.

They were threatening to add to it with runners at second and third with one out, but Voth escaped further damage with a strikeout and a line out.

In the fifth, Voth led off with a single. After two outs were recorded, Savannah Hardison and Liliana Garramone loaded the bases with walks.

Friesen then iced the game with her three-run double, making it 7-1.

Kinlee East made it 8-1 in the sixth with an RBI groundout.

All told, KHS had eight hits.

Voth led the way with her 3 for 4 showing.

Farrar was 1 for 3 with her 2 RBIS and 2 runs scored.

Friesen was also 1 for 3. She had 3 RBIs and a run.

Voth went the distance in the circle. She surrendered five hits in seven innings, walked two and struck out five.

KHS plays Friday and Saturday in the tournament in Pauls Valley, one at which they’ve claimed the championship the last two years.
