Brand-new Eagle Event Center hosts 2020 HHS graduation

The Eagle Event Center held its first official event last Tuesday, May 26, when the Hennessey High School Class of 2020 graduated in the new facility. The graduates each sat with their family members and guests during the ceremony. Each of the 59 graduates was allowed four guests.

Gilmour sets aside three days for pre-k screening, enrollment

Extra precautions will be taken later this month when Gilmour Elementary School holds its annual pre-kindergarten enrollment and screenings. The screenings and enrollment are scheduled June 15-17 at the school. To be eligible for pre-k in 2020-21, children must be 4 years old on or before Sept.

County accepts road bids

Kingfisher County commissioners accepted bids for road materials and contract services as tabulated by staff from lowest to highest Monday. The process allows commissioners to figure in transportation costs to determine the lowest bid based on the area where they are working.

Dorothy Burns

The world lost a genuinely beautiful soul with the unexpected passing of Dorothy Mae Burns on May 31, 2020, after a sudden illness. She was 89. Dorothy was born on May 16, 1931, in Cashion to Joseph K. and Annabelle (Moore) Ruhl.

2020 grads earn nearly $3 million

The largest graduating class in Kingfisher High School history left with nearly $3 million in awards and scholarship offers. The class of 2020, which had 127 students, was awarded $2,944,836 in offers, according to figures provided by KHS Counselor Paula Leffingwell.

Harvest off to slow start

Cool weather and frequent overnight showers have delayed the start of the 2020 wheat harvest, county grain elevator operators say. No wheat had been received at county elevators as of Thursday morning, a survey indicated.
